Due to popular demand we have put together a short dressmaking course for all the crafty sewers out there who want to create their own clothes. Weeks 1-3 will concentrate on skill building and will cover techniques such as inserting zips, creating buttonholes, adding bias binding, creating darts, sewing on buttons etc. The remaining sessions are then for you to bring along your own projects to work on, with the help and support of our experienced dress maker and tutor Cathie.
We will be able to advise on how to read a pattern, fabric section, altering a pattern to fit you better and potentially some simple pattern drafting. The course is suitable for beginners to dressmaking, but it would be advantageous if you are able to thread a sewing machine or have created a few sewing projects already. If you have not created your own clothes before then you should be able to create a simple skirt or dress over the length of the course.
There are six Running With Scissors machines available to use at the workshop, however you can bring your own if you wish. Please note that if you bring your own machine it will be up to you to make sure that it is in good working order and is safe to use. Running with Scissors cannot take responsibility for use of machines other than our own.
I really enjoyed the summer dress course thanks. I learnt loads of things. Cathy was so calm and patient and made it a very enjoyable 4 weeks. Looking forward to seeing you again
