Soutache is a narrow braid used historically for military style garment embellishment but more recently, techniques have been developed to combine it with beads and cabochons to create unique and beautiful jewelry.
The skills are easy to learn with the help of Grace, our experienced, expert tutor. The design possibilities are almost infinite, from freeform rainbow mishmash to structured art deco sophistication. We will cover techniques for attaching and layering cord, adding beads and cabochons and backing and edging finished pieces.
Cord in a variety of colours, backing felt and many beads and cabochons will be supplied, but feel free to bring anything from your collection that you’d like to add to a piece.
