Come and learn how to use wax and dye to crate beautiful patterns on fabric.

You will be working with cotton and silk fabrics, applying wax and paste resists using a variety of methods (tjanting, block prints, sponge shapes…). Dying and then reapplying wax or paste resists before adding more paint or dye.

You will go home with at least one picture to frame and a bag with your own batik design. You will also have all the information you need to continue your resist and dying textile designing at home. Batik can produce a wide range of styles from the contemporary to the traditional “crackled” style.

Our expert tutor for this workshop is Helen Moyes. She developed her batik and dying skills as a subject of special interest during her Applied Textiles qualification. Since then, she has experimented with different resist and dying techniques so has lots of tips and techniques to help inspire your work.
