Take two days out of life to sew and create a unique dress, specially fitted to you on our sewing retreat. Give yourself the luxury of the time and space to sew a project to completion with the expert guidance of our experienced tutor and qualified teacher, Helen.

On this mini course you will make a 1950s style dress with a circle skirt. Along the way you will learn lots of transferable clothes making skills for your other projects. Some of the skills covered include: fitting the dress properly to your unique shape, creating a dress pattern for yourself to take away, following pattern markings, cloth cutting techniques, making darts, making and using facings including dealing with a curved bodice, inserting optional lace bodice top, lining garments, making evenly spaced elastic casings, gathering to fit, optional inclusion of straps and belts.

Helen will guide in in sources of retro clothes patterns. If you want to use horsehair braid in a hems for styling then this is available to purchase on the day for a small additional cost.

You’ll need to bring fabric of your choice to ensure it is something you will enjoy wearing. (The blue polka dot dress pictured was created on a former workshop. Pictures are not professional but realistically what you can achieve). Further details of fabric requirements and notions will be given after booking and advising us of your size. You can choose to make a lighter weight party frock or a heavier weight cocktail party dress.

Accommodation is available at further cost if required locally to the Hagglers Corner Venue if you are traveling to the retreat weekend from further afield. Get in contact through email to discuss this option.
