The five-week course will provide you with an introduction to soft furnishings. It will teach you the skills to measure correctly for curtains, work out the required fabric needed and give you the skills to produce a bag lined curtain with curtain tape assembly. You will then produce a cushion with a piped edge. We will progress to making the very popular roman blind. We will be using hand and machine softfurnishings techniques.
The course will follow the following structure:
Week 1 – Introduction to soft furnishings, measurements, material types, basic hand and softfurnishings techniques and preparations for a bag lined curtain.
Week 2 – Production of a bag lined curtain.
Week 3 – Production of a cushion with piped edge and zip.
Week 4 – Production of a Roman Blind.
Week 5 – Assembly of the Roman Blind and completion of all projects.
The course will be tutored by June Wyatt. She is from Sheffield and has over 40 years experience with the soft furnishings industry. She has worked at established local soft furnishings firms throughout her career including Rackhams, Stokes Interiors and John Lewis. She has run her own successful business creating curtains, cushions, pelmets, loose covers, swags and tails, tiebacks and more. Along with a City and Guilds Introduction to Teaching, June has the knowledge and expertise to guide you through the step by step process to produce your own creations for the home.
