The mini-curtain will be lined and will incorporate a standard ‘header tape’ (the bit on the curtain that attaches to your curtain rail). Thank you so much for the excellent curtain making lesson – I honestly can’t recommend it highly enough. You made what I initially thought would be an impossible task (especially for a beginner), an achievable and enjoyable activity. The lesson was easy to follow and the notes you provided enabled me to return to it at a later date to make not one but two pairs of lined curtains! Up until now, anything beyond a simple cushion cover has felt too daunting to even attempt, but I now feel confident enough to try all sorts of projects, not just curtains. And I have of course saved myself a fortune in the process…

Free-hand Machine Embroidery

Due to popular demand we are also offering Free-hand Machine Embroidery as a private tuition session. If you’ve not heard of this before then this is ‘free style machine sewing’, kind of like sketching by moving the paper rather than the pencil, the only limit is your imagination!. We will start with the basics to get you used to using a different sewing technique and then you can be as creative as you want. You can either use you own machine or one of ours, however there are a few points to consider:

If you would like to use your own machine for this session then you need to have a good quality machine which is robust enough to do free machine embroidery. You will need to be able to lower the feed dogs (the little metal teeth under the needle), or have a plate to cover your feed dogs, and have a free machine embroidery foot to fit your machine (or you can borrow one of our free machine embroidery feet). Alternatively we can bring one of our machines and a free machine embroidery foot for you to use during the session.

Feel free to e-mail Emma at info@rwssheffield.co.uk for more information or if you have any queries.

Zips and Buttons

Or wondered if the other 99 stitches on your machine are of any use to you? Then this is the workshop for you! You will learn 2 different methods of putting in a zip, running up a quick buttonhole on the sewing machine and even sewing buttons on using the machine. We will also make a small make-up style bag, which will give you chance to put in a zip and practice buttonholes. This is a great workshop for building on your basic skills and will give you lots more confidence for making your own clothes or lovely projects for your home.
