8 Week Dress Making Course

We have put together an eight week dressmaking course for all the crafty sewers out there who want to learn to create their own clothes. We will develop transferable dress making skills covering techniques such as inserting zips, creating buttonholes, adding bias binding, creating darts, sewing on buttons etc. We will then make your own chosen project, with the help, advice and support of our experienced dress maker and tutor Cathie. You can expect to create an item of clothing during the course.

Cathie has been working with us at Running With Scissors for over 14 years. She is a friendly, welcoming tutor, able to support people at all levels of skill. She is a full-time seamstress specialising in bespoke wedding dress making. She has also gained a Master’s Degree in Pattern Cutting and so has lots of skills and experience to pass on!

During the course, we will be able to advise on how to read a pattern, fabric section and altering a pattern to fit you better. The course is suitable for both beginners to dressmaking and those are more experience and want support on a specific project as there will lots of individual support. It would be advantageous if you are able to thread a sewing machine or have created a few sewing projects already. If you have not created your own clothes before then you should be able to create a simple skirt or dress over the length of the course.

There are Running With Scissors machines available to use at the workshop, however you can bring your own if you wish.
